About Kleeberg: The city is located in a breath-taking landscape. A mountain range, its highest peak giving the its name, restricts Kleeberg in the east. The city spreads over a narrow peninsula until the Broad River. The natural environment gives the basics to special planning accents in Kleeberg. Some of these specialties, but also other main sights of the city, are to be introduced here.

The capable basic network...

Because at the university a light-rail planning project (Regional light rail Lübeck) was coming up, I practiced creating schematically network plans by the example of Kleeberg. The shown plan contains all underground-, fast-track- and light-rail-lines of Kleeberg in the year 150. Further down you can also find the developed network of the year 250.

Urban traffic is (unfortunately) not only public...

A metropolis like Kleeberg has some main relations for the individualised and motorised traffic as well, which need an appropriate route expansion. In Kleeberg an extravagang urban motorway was built, it mostly runs beneath the groundlevel. In the picture a junction in the westside of the city is shown, that connects the North-South-Tangent with the regional importanten Western Bridge.

The old harbour...

...is located in the district of La-Vine and is still in use today, because the goods, produced in the neighboring technology park, are exported mostly via this harbour. But the importance has lacked heavily by establishing the New Harbour (following section).

District of New Habour...

The New Harbour now allows container ships, suitable for overseas passages, to fasten at Kleeberg. Together with this, for the moment most important harbour in the whole region, a new industrial and technology estate was developed. This new district, bearing the name New Harbour, was one of the biggest and most important urban expansion areas in the city of Kleeberg.

Central Station at a slope...

The four-track Central Station was built a slope between the plateau containing the Old Town and the marshland on a narrow mid-level. The Central Station is connected to the light rail and subway on both of its sides, the fast track trains all meet in the Central Station as the midpoint of the network.

City defends...

In Kleeberg a good part of the medieval fortification remains the heart of the city. To these remaining fortifications belong besides the city walls also the moat, which was transformed later on and got some inviting promenades. The people of Kleeberg are, without exception, very proud of their historical legacy.

National library...

South of the city walls and the ring-road is the national library located at the same mid-level as the Central Station. The proud building is modeled after the french national library in Paris (The corner towers have been erased by the game and are no plugins!). At the mid-level between the Old Town Plateau and the marshlands more public buildings and monuments have been located.

The proud castle is perched above the Old Town...

The proud Castle Kleeberg is perched on a high plateau above from where in the early middle ages the Free Hanseatic City of Kleeberg developed. Today the castle is a popular and widely known tourist attraction, because it is the best preserved castle in the whole region.

The district of Heckspitz...

...is a new district, which slowly displaced an old fishermen's town, not preservable because of its substance and the state of sanitation. The ferry port of Heckspitz is a main interchange point in the rush hour, caused by the high quota of residential buildings in the district. That is why several ferry routes connect here. The ferry port is connected to the othe public transport systems of the city by the light rail, just like almost all the other ferry ports of Kleeberg.

The Metro-Network has grown after 250 years...

One hundred years after the first specification of the public transport network a new line was added to the system. So the schematic network plan had to be redrawn. The network shown here is still good in the current year of 326. Only some new stations have been added, but there are no new lines at all.

Scenic flights around the city...

This small scenic flight will be started at the district of Hansehain. You will pass the Central Sation, the district called Westtorkvart and finally fly over the Old Town to the castle. To start just touch the picture in the right with your mouse.

Central motorway...

The urban motorway, running east to west is the main traffic attery of the city. It runs subterranean along the high density districts in the marshlands and comes out of the tunnel only for the junctions (in the picture you the junction Hansehain). The motorway was partially built after developing the housing, so a part of the older buildings in the places of the junctions had to give way for the increaing needs of the traffic.

Expansion areas...

In the south of the marshlands there are some more potentials for urban expansions. The soil was costly dried only some little time ago and will be available in the next years. The development, of course, will be depicted here.

Update: New Settlement areas get prepared...

In the northern part of the expansion areas (just south of the "Söderhafenalley" some preparations for a first expansion have been made. The main road network has allready been created in its basics. In a first step the light rail was extended and a new interchange station with the regional train network has been built. Afterwards some space for low-density commercial uses is revealed to create a connection between a housing district and an area of higher density.

Update: The commercial area is completly occupied...

A few years later the light rail has been extended and now works as the backbone of the new district. At Brahmplatz there has been built a spacious station, surrounded by gastronomy and some leisure industries. In the west you can also see the main traffic facilities at Helgerkamp.

Update: Station Helgerkamp...

In the new district at the sound this station Helgerkamp is going to be the central interchange point between the city- and regional-wide public transport. Der Bahnhof Helgerkamp wird neben der Regionalbahn bereits jetzt von der Tram angefahren. A connection with the subway is also planned. This is going to be realised, when the demand of public transport around the station has grown.

To be continued...!
